Therapeutic Yoga

Cheryl King

Cheryl King first encountered yoga and meditation in the 1980’s as a college student. Studying Buddhism with Professor Frederick J Streng, she became fascinated with the philosophy, ritual, and beauty of the Buddhist meditation practice and made her first trip to Thailand for a cultural immersion upon graduation.
 
Cheryl’s teaching style is interdisciplinary with emphasis on gentle movement and anatomical alignment. She encourages students to find and sustain a moment-to-moment experience through the practice of yoga and meditation.
 

Cheryl brings a spirit of loving kindness to her own practice and her teaching. Her life’s work involves exploring and teaching connection to self and one another.

 

Cheryl received her RYT 200 Hr at Dallas Yoga Center.

Susan A. Austin

Susan started her yoga practice in college, but after fulfilling that PE requirement, she stopped practicing. The seed, however, had been planted. Susan remained physically active as exercising helped relieve the stress of the practice of law, and litigation specifically. In a continuing effort to stay in shape and mitigate the inevitable signs of the relentless march of time, Susan discovered yoga again, but this time she was ready to really explore the practice.
 
 
 
Susan's analytical outlook and intellectual curiosity has helped her enjoy her practice and the teacher training at DYC. She continues to learn and better understand spiritual, mental, and physical health thru yoga. Susan has also found that, at least on the mat, the march of time is a little slower....

Mary Kimberlin

Mary is an advanced certified Rolfer, as well as a yoga instructor in the Iyengar and Anusara yogic traditions. Mary has been studying and practicing Structural Integration (Rolfing) for eighteen years, and completed her advanced Rolfing training in Europe in 1999. She has also had additional training in Cranial Sacral and Visceral Manipulation. She has practiced yoga since 1990 and has taught since 1995.

 

Mary's extensive Rolfing background gives her unique insight into the numerous muscular connections which control the mechanical movements of the skeletal frame. In addition to her experience through Rolfing, her own ongoing yoga practice further deepens her understanding of anatomy and the way the body moves within each pose.

 

Through this unique vantage point, Mary's analysis of each individual's patterns enables them to learn how to use their own body to help restore balance and flexibility.

Allows students to re-educate movement patterns, as well as increase body intelligence & awareness. In this class modifications and props are used generously in order to target specific injuries or concerns. Poses are mostly passive with some core stabilization. The aim is to learn how to adapt and modify postures in order to best serve each individual. This class is recommended for those working to recover range of motion from prior injuries, learning how to intelligently re-engage after full recovery from surgery, and older students needing to modify their practice.
 
This series is appropriate for students who have been released from their doctor’s care and have completed physical therapy. Parameters for participation include: the ability to get up and down off the floor without assistance, freedom from medical devices, and no active disc issues. Students with joint replacements may need a private session prior to joining series to learn modifications specific to their replacement and range of motion.
